ILEA Explores: Riding the Wave - A Legal and HR Perspective

Join ILEA Calgary for our first event of the chapter year on Thursday, October 7, ILEA Explores: Riding the Wave – A Legal and HR Perspective. We have invited Chestermere City Councillor and Lawyer, Ritesh Narayan and Jordan Blake, HR Business Partner and CPHR to do a deep dive into legal and HR considerations as we ride this current wave of the pandemic.

This wide ranging discussion will touch on many of the legal and HR questions that keep event planners and business owners up at night. Ritesh will discuss legal issues around opening and operating safely including right to access, denial of service, what can be legally asked of event partners and what contract considerations may come into effect in the future.

Jordan will discuss how companies deal with a wide variety of difficult subjects, including employees having different views on vaccinations and respectful workplaces, how to talk to employees about vaccinations, employee retention, return to office or in-person working, and what companies need to consider in adapting their policies and procedures for a post-Covid world.

Meet our speakers:

Ritesh Narayan is a proud resident of Chestermere since 2006 and was elected as a city councillor in 2017. He is a criminal justice and law lecturer in the Department of Economics Justice & Policy at Mount Royal University. He holds a Ph.D. in Human Services & Criminal Justice, a Master’s degree in Law, and Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Law.

Jordan Blake is a Certified Professional in HR with over 15 years of experience in advisor and business partner roles in large-scale corporate environments. His focus areas include employee and labour relations, strategic planning and leadership development. He holds a bachelor’s degree in human resources and is a professionally trained executive coach.
